Dear Parent or Guardian,
It has come to the attention of District 95 that a juvenile female was approached by a suspicious vehicle on Wednesday, April 8th at approximately 9:00 a.m. near Maple Avenue and 31st Street. The individual, who is NOT a student of District 95, fled the first suspicious vehicle and was then approached by a second vehicle. The police were contacted and the juvenile is safe.
Vehicle Descriptions: Black sedan and newer white pickup truck.
Although information is limited, the District felt it was important to alert parents in an effort to create community awareness. I encourage you to talk with your child(ren) about being aware of his/her surroundings and having a safety plan when traveling. Brookfield and LaGrange Park Police Departments are aware of the situation and are investigating. There will be increased police presence in and around school zones and travel routes during both arrival and dismissal.
Both S.E. Gross Middle School and Brook Park School staff have reviewed safety measures with our older students (Grade 5-8), which include:
1. Walking with friends
2. Calling police about suspicious individuals
3. Not talking to strangers
4. Being aware of surroundings (especially when listening to music or on the phone)
Although students in Kindergarten-4th Grade have received safety information from their assigned Adopt-a-Cop throughout the school year, we felt you, as the parent, would be the best person to speak to your child(ren) regarding this specific situation.
Once again, please remind your child(ren) the importance of the above safety measures and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
